I'm fighting tears and my stomach is in knots. Why do such terrible things have to happen?

I wonder if these two young men had a history of mental illness. I have to think anyone capable of such wanton and deviant cruelty must be tremendously disturbed. I don't feel that I can sign the petition because I don't know what happened in the perpetrators' pasts to make them so sick. I hope that whatever happens to them, be it jail time or a mental institution, that they never do anything like this again.
