I agree with you...I have seen some retired females that have been bred, as well as other adult females on here that were being sold for $1000-$1500 and I always think I've always been told by reputable breeders that retired females are placed for the price of a spay & dental. So I don't understand anyone asking so much for an adult female, especially one that has been bred.

And so far as breeders retiring and placing their adults, a lot of times it is in the best interest of the dog. If a breeder continues to show and breed, they're going to continue adding new dogs to their breeding program. If they keep every spayed/neutered retired dog, they would eventually have so many dogs that they may not be able to care for them all properly. Dogs need individual attention, and if a breeder has too many dogs, they won't be able to provide that. So a lot of the time it's in the best interest of a dog to place him/her in a new home where they can be a PET and receive that individual attention.

What usually upsets me is when people buy dogs as PETS only and then decide to breed them...and then get rid of them. If you buy a dog intending it to be a pet, you've made a lifetime commitment to that animal. But when someone has a breeding program (and is hopefully breeding for the right reasons), to continue a good breeding program they will most likely have to place some dogs at some point.
