I never take my pets to Petco groomers either. I was in line to check out one day and was watching through the window and saw a groomer do something I didn't like. I gave her a dirty look when she looked our way then she was nice to the dog. I thought to late lady I saw enough. I have never taken a pet there and I tell everyone I know not to. I'm sure that groomer has been gone a long time as it was years ago but I haven't forgotten. My groomer does one dog at a time and allows me to stay in the same room.
