I once shipped a 12-week-old Persian kitten from California to Colorado, and that poor little thing was so traumatized that I swore never to ship an animal again.
When I moved to South Africa and the airline refused to allow me to have my little Peke in the cabin with me, I found her a new home with a wonderful new mama rather than subject her to 30 hours in the belly of the plane. She was old and the vet thought it would be too much for her.
I know people ship animals all the time, but I just could not do it again. My babies either stay home with a house sitter or they come with me. Now that we have four, however, if we bring them along it will have to be a car trip!
Puddin' rides well...no carsickness, no trembling, no problems. She is happy in her puppy purse (even takes naps in it at home) and when she gets bigger, I'll see about getting her a car seat or harness. The others have to travel in kennels as they moan and jump about in the car otherwise. But except in the most urgent circumstances, I do not see myself being a party to shipping an animal ever again. |
