I agree. You have to watch them at all times when they are out of their pen / crate. I crate my Abby only at night and when no one is home.
When she is out, we have to watch her body language to know when she has to go out. She runs around like a mad woman when she has to go out. She will run quickly to us then run back and then back to us again. So we know that she has to go out. I always have an eye on her when she is not in her crate.
