I just posted in another thread about this topic that I just replaced my coffee table similar to the one in question with an outtoman.
Addy shakes her toys violently and I could just see her smacking into the old table and really hurting herself.
Not everyone would replace furniture, but they can move it.
Accidents happen, maybe John had to suffer through his yorkie having a trauma and wanted to prevent another one.
