huh, I really wonder why she has such bad teeth. I give exactly the same care and attention to my chi and Dolly's teeth, my chi has sparkling white teeth, but Dolly's... just curious, what kind of homecooked food do you feed Ellie?
thanks so much, you have helped us so much by providing valuable information. now we always have a place for a second opinion
Well, some dog foods contain glucosamine (but probably not a therapeutic dose). I would see no need to avoid something like that. Missing Link may not do much good at all but it shouldn't hurt either. I just honestly don't get what the vet is saying. I mean, sure avoid drugs if possible but these are nutriceuticals. Glucosamine comes from sea creatures...shell fish. I don't understand why that would be so bad. Of course it isn't optiminal in an already liver compromised dog because these foods aren't recommended. Maybe it is some chemical that Nutramax has used to preserve it that the vet is concerned about but not sure which one. Anyway, I don't think not using glucosamine is a big deal as much as the vet being worried about using these types of products at all.

Ellie was getting chicken or turkey, carbs (rice, barley, etc.), mixed vegetables and oil. She is now going to whitefish, sweet potato and oatmeal.
