This one is really quite simple. They are just jealous that you have a better dog. That's all. I wouldn't care if the old man was offended either. He should train his dog not to act like a barbarian. He reminds me of the parent of the child in the grocery store that screams his little head off when he doesn't get his way...Anyway, that is a different story.
