We're trying to bust as many teeth out of Nikko skull as we can before he gets neutered at the beginning of next month... $16.50 per tooth didn't sound too bad to me until I started doing the math if he needed several teeth pulled... in the last 4 days we've collected four larger teeth, and I know that a couple weeks ago he'd already lost most of his teeny tiny front teeth and grown them back.

Anyways, I know this is an old thread, but I'm going to share what we've been doing lately anyways. His gums seem to hurt him off and on, he's eating fairly sporadically all the sudden, and we need those teeth OUT! So we've been freezing his kibble in ice cubes. I figure they're hard and crunchy and might help loosen some more teeth, and they're cold so they'll make his gums feel better, and he's also getting help receiving his healthy daily dose of kibble. We also play lots of tug of war whenever his teeth aren't hurting him too badly, and he also gets bully sticks, though he hasn't been as interested in them lately :-(

We tried giving him a frozen baby teether as a chew toy, but it was in pieces within seconds, and we had to take it away for fear of him ingesting the plastic.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has any helpful suggestions for either helping ease the pain or helping lose the teeth asap.

Oh that must have been scary, grabbing a loose back tooth, glad he was able to get rid of it without too much trauma. You gave some good tips on helping during teething; I never have heard about freezing the kibble in water before, what a clever suggestion, it would help numb the gums. I've read others tried the human baby teething rings with no success, same problem you had, the teething ring was chewed up in minutes, but I did see a dog teething rings at Target, and some you can freeze. As Cheryl1022 mentioned freezing a washcloth works well for some dogs. Prices per tooth vary, I think Joey's vet only charged $7.00 per tooth, and I've read some charge even less, $16.50 is on the top end of the scale.

When human babies are teething they are actually sprouting teeth through gums that have never had teeth before, the tooth is erupting in fresh skin, many secondary problems such as fevers, colds, flu can be associated with teething, and it really hurts, their teething rings could more adequately be called gumming rings. So that’s why you can't use human teething rings on dogs. However when a dog is teething, he basically just losing his teeth, often because a new one is coming in, this is similar to a 5 year old losing a tooth, and as some of you can recall, there isn't as much pain associated with losing a baby tooth to get the second tooth, just lots of excitement, cause that meant the tooth fairy would pay a visit!
