I am an esthetician. I no longer work but I do maintain my license. I would say of the two, nursing is by FAR your better option.
Did you like your school?
Yes
Why were you interested in this field?
I was very interested in the clinical side of skin care as opposed to the pampering. I was especially interested in treatments for sun damage which is a pretty big issue in FL, as you would imagine.
How fast did you find a job? I was lucky and found a job at a nice spa immediately but I doubt that would be the case now.
Where do you work (spa, salon, doctors office...)?
I worked at a salon/spa
Do you think it's a rewarding career?
I loved it but it is the hardest field to build a clientele. When money gets tight the esthetician is the first thing people give up. Most people will find the money to maintain their hair and nails but facials get perceived as a luxury.
Have you taken more classes to get more experience?
I always took classes offered at the skin care shows and I took additional training on chemical peels. I also had to take training to be licensed to do body wraps. I think I learned the most from other estheticians on forums.
If you have any other questions just let me know. It isn't a field I would recommend if financial security is an issue or unless you feel pretty confident of securing a job with a doctor.
