My guy (RIP my little Oscar) would go in his crate too, he didn't sleep there - but when we put him in there to rest, he'd go.

He was 12 months when we got him...

So this is what we did. We bought a big wire cage, and lined it with pee pads (we were trying to train him to go inside). Every so often we'd put him in the cage and say 'pee pee on the paper', then when he did we praised him and then let him out (don't let him out until he goes, however, make sure it's enough time between potty so he has to go). Soon after 4-6 days we didn't have to close the door - he went right in. Then we got a rubbermaid container and put him in that, for a few more days. Until we reworked a rubbermaid container to have only one side and then clipped the pee pads up the side (he was a little boy, so he needed to lift).

However, when we moved 3.5 years ago he started to randomly pee, not sure the stress of a new place (new smells) - or the stress of moving, renovating, etc.

Going to get another little guy in a few days, hopefully, we will have the same luck.

Good luck!
