I was on the lanai yesterday when I heard a sound that wasn't quite right, so I looked around and there is Scooter doing battle with a very large black snake that had somehow gotten into the lanai. Scoot was darting and weaving and so was the snake, but the snake was also hissing and making a very weird sound almost like a rattle. I yelled at Scoot to come and he ran right over to me (they were on the other side of the pool). Scoot was very, very interested in his new toy and wanted to go back but killjoy mommie made him go into the house. I persuaded Mr. Snake to leave our lanai and was he mad. He is a good 3 feet long, very pretty, and he and I have come face to face a number of times while I've been doing stuff in the yard. I do worry about the dogs being bitten by black snakes because although they aren't poisonous they do have tons of bacteria in their mouths which can cause a bad infection. Scooter is so small that a bite would probably make him very sick. He did enjoy his encounter though....thought mommie had bought him a new toy.
