My 4-pounder had two major surgeries after 10 years old, and he not only survived, he thrived. The first was to repair a torn cranial cruciate ligament. He was walking on it fine the day he got his cast off. The second was to repair a perineal hernia. He was walking on it on Day 2 and running by Day 3.

As QuickSilver says, there are no guarantees, but Yorkies are a surprisingly hardy breed, even the tiny ones.
