If he's biting his tail, it's for a reason. Something is bothering him, or hurting. Poor little guy. I'm sure he will be fine. I would wait to hear from your friend, then take him to the vet. You don't want whatever it is to get infected. It is totally not normal though. Something is going on there. Good luck and keep us posted. Sending him great big hugs.
