The NICU is extremely expensive. When my preemie sister was born 21 years ago the NICU cost about $5k a day. So given today's inflation and the amount of babies that she had I am sure that is pretty much what it will cost. You every look at the break down of a hospital bill. When I had my son four and a half years ago I looked at the bill and the asprin that I got they charged $8. So go figure. They babies need equipment, allot staff for feedings, test are run routinely, plus all the specialist that are checking them for any sort of issues due to their preemie status.
