Default puppy play with kids

Just a quick question. Bronx is at the age where he thinks everything is his own personal chew toy - including the kids. He doesn't do this to me, (although he does love chasing my slippers when I'm walking in them lol) but he is constantly doing it to the kids. I have been telling them that if he starts chewing or play biting them to deter him with a toy instead. My question is, should I be telling him no also? I did start telling him no and then giving him a toy, is there anything else you guys can suggest that maybe I haven't thought of? It's important to me for him to understand that the kids are higher in the pack than he is, so any suggestions would help. Thanks!!
