I am in South Africa and was targeted by one of these scams just this month...the scammer was in the US and offering to sell us Yorkie pups for R2500, which is about $250. Because I am an American and I know what Yorkies cost in the US, I knew immediately that it was a scam, but I fear other people in Africa may not and be tempted: top quality female Yorkie pups sell for R4500 to R5000 here ($450 to $500).

I think the smartest move is to distrust any solicitations that do not come from someone you know and if you are answering an ad, do your homework before parting with any money, no matter where in the world the seller might be.
