Hello Daisy and Desaree!....All I can say about the brushing is to try and do a couple of strokes at a time and maybe give a treat like a tiny piece of simmered chicken when she's done....I like using a Pin brush and a Slicker brush for working out the stubborn ones....I found this product at Walmart ( also at Walgreens) for about five dollars and I just spray it on and it loosens the mats up wonderfully! Sometimes if the mat is a tough one I used to take a pair of thinning scissors and I would cut into the mat starting at the bottom towards the sin (careful not to snip the skin) then I would work it out with the spray and the brush. It worked better than cutting out a mat and leaving a bald spot.

Good luck and welcome back!
