If everyone exerted the effort and lived by that mindset, it would be a much better place. To achieve the betterment of all citizens requires effort being put forth by all citizens. The only way "we" can become better is if everyone strives to achieve more and better themselves first, thus bettering everyone in the big picture.
Hopefully EVERYONE will follow his example in this and strive for betterment.
