We usually go a half-inch on Eddie, but we have done 1/4 a couple times. One-quarter looked too short to me, but he loved it and it grew back in a hurry. It has nothing to do with the color. We like it short in winter so the snow doesn't cling to it. And in our whopping four months of summer, we keep it short because it's easy to take care of.
Do you see any harm in cutting it that short, or is it just personal preference? Obviously, we're deviating from the breed standard, but since we don't show him, that's not a concern.
