Dog's should be able to express their anal glands on their own when they are frightened, or just a natural thing, sometimes dogs cant do it. When they scoot their bottom on the floor, its usually a sign that they need them expressed. When you get your baby groomed, i would ask the groomer if they do it internally or externally- there are 2 different ways of expressing the anal glands! If you get it done to much it can cause problems...and yes, the smell is wicked!
