Whats the best way to introduce a new puppy to my adult yorkie? My wife and I have a 4 year old Yorkie named Sammy that we love dearly. We have considered getting a second dog for a long time and have now found our puppy. Its a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and if all goes well we will be brining her into our home in a couple of weeks. Our main concern at this point is figuring out the best/safest way to introduce a new baby to Sammy who has always been the only dog and who, unfortunately thinks he more of a human than a dog (our fault, I know). When he was just a puppy I was outside playing with him when a Dalmation that was off the leash ran up to him, couldnt stop and ran right over him trampling him in the process. Since then, Sammy has not been crazy about other dogs. At the dog park, once inside the fence, when other dogs approach him he just freezes up and doesnt know how to act. I guess my point is that he is not the most socialized of dogs and I want to be sure we dont have any major problems between him and the new puppy. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert, Denae and Sammy! |
