I can tell you from experience, that getting their weight under control now is best for them. Many health problems, just like with us, that can arise from being overweight. I had a diabetic Bichon who recently passed, that was on insulin injections for the last three years of his life.
Get him out and exercise more, reduce his calories (safely) and you will have a happier, healthier furry friend.
My Yorkie gained a bit too much weight, she was getting fat, and we reduced her portions a little bit, and had more running and playing and were able to get her down about 1/4 lb back to where she should be. (I know that sounds like such a small amount, but she is pretty small). It took a few months to do, just to be on the safe side, slow and gradual. |
