And Nancy1999, when I move to my desk or bed, he'll simply bark or whine until I let him up on the bed/chair with me where he simply tries attacking me once more! Unless he is sleepy, THEN he'll lay down with me.
But anyways, I am glad I am not the only one with an attention seeking pup! |
Well, the barking then rewarding him by picking him up is just reinforcing his barking. When he barks and whines you can shake a can of pennies every time he barks, and say "no." After a few minutes, he'll get the idea that he isn't getting his way. Some dogs are more persistent and this depends on how much they've been rewarded in the past for barking. After he's quite for a few minutes, you can then reward him with some playing or a treat, but always wait at least a minute after he stopped barking. Remember, everything you do is teaching him something.
I just want to add that certain behavior on a pup can be cute, but on an older dog it can be really anoying, and it so much easier to train the pup.
