What about owner responsibility? I am so tired of breeders getting blamed for everything. It is not always in the best interest of the dog to have them neutered at a very young age and actually with male dogs, neutering them can cause more health problems than benefits. Pet owners should take responsibility to make sure their unaltered dogs do not get pregnant or get another dog pregnant.

The following is a excerpt from this website:

CONCLUSIONS
An objective reading of the veterinary medical literature reveals a complex situation with respect to the long term health risks and benefits associated with spay/neuter in dogs. The evidence shows that spay/neuter
correlates with both positive AND adverse health effects in dogs. It also suggests how much we really do not yet understand about this subject.
On balance, it appears that no compelling case can be made for neutering most male dogs to prevent future health problems, especially immature male dogs. The number of health problems associated with neutering may exceed the associated health benefits in most cases.
If every yorkie breeder adhered to the guidelines set forth by the YTCA then very few of us would ever own a yorkie, let alone experience the joy of breeding. The YTCA consists of around 500 members if I remember correctly and I know many of them don't breed or breed very seldom. Most will never give breeding rights to anyone. It is not that easy to even find a pet yorkie from one of them.

Breeders need to be responsible in placing puppies in loving homes at a proper age and in many cases they should be sold with limited registration but to blame breeders for an accidental breeding that happened to a dog they sold is ridiculous. Some people act like it is a mortal sin for a pet owner to let their dog have puppies.

I feel that YT offers a wealth of information for breeders and pet owners but if we keep running off new members because they ask a question we think is silly or if they don't do things exactly like we think they should then what are we accomplishing? I see it over and over again and I think it is sad.
