The best food is the one that your dog does well on. Every dog is different, and it is kind of a process of trial and error until you find what works well for your individual pet. Even within the same breed and between siblings there will be differences.
I rotate through a few different diets with Penny, primarily because I feel uncomfortable putting all my eggs in one basket, as it were. I've recently been feeding California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato, a couple of different varieties of Merrick, and Canidae, and my dog is thriving on them.
