I learned "the hard way" too. The problem I had ... I let a vet that I only took Toto to for a little physical to get a "Flight certificate" when I was going to fly with her. We had not been in CO long enough to find a reputable vet so just picked one out of the phone book. The idiot expressed her little glands and in doing so, bruised them! We found an excellent vet and I won't let anyone else touch her. I'm sure there are experienced groomers who know the correct way, but I am just much more trusting of her vet. Besides, he does it and bathes her little rear and she doesn't need a bath when we get home!
That stuff smells terrible!!
