Love Newbie: My baby is sick!

On December 24th early in the AM around midnight or one am, Papi Chulo began to vomit. It looked like his dog food (hard kibble) and then he vomited again shortly after. It looked like a chunk of something but I didnt get a goodlook because someone else cleaned up. Afterwards he was playful. Around 3am, he became lethargic, wouldnt eat, but drank water. He had been throwing up all day Christmas eve (Just clear bile/spit as he hadn't eaten anything. I took him to the vet and was told he had obvious signs of tummy pains and wanted to hospitalize him over the holidays to take blood work, xrays, and multiple other tests. I wanted to wait another 12 hours to see if his condition worsened or got better and he seems to be a bit better today. He threw up once in the middle of the night last night and a tiny little bit of yellow bile thisafternoon.
I am giving him Pedialite which is for children and babies. Helps with dehydration and loss of minerals from vomiting or diareah.
I might mention Papi Chulo has not had a bowel movement in 24hrs because he has not eaten.
This afternoon I also gave him about 3ml of pepto bismol as i read in many of the posts on here this can help with tummy pain.
I bought him some chicken broth baby food (closest they had to chicken and rice) and I plan on making him eat it later on.
He seems like he just wants to sleep.

Yesterday I was panicking and about to send him to hospital for thousand dollars. Everyone (family/friends/people with small dogs) have told me to wait, and fast him, give him water, Pedialite, etc and he will get better and that the vet is unecessary.

I would like to get your opinions on this situation...please.

I am a proud new owner of a YT and he is 3 months old and weighs 2.6lbs.
Please help my baby get better.

Happy Holidays
Amber
