I think that you should just be consistant and Bentley will lose the attitude LOL!
Missy knows that she must go pee before she's allowed out of her x-pen. She will go over to her pee pad and squeeze out a drop just to be let out. Once she's gone pee she gets free (supervised) run of the house. It's working well for us.
