An inch can be nice, and winter IS coming on, but I might encourage even shorter for a pup who has a tendency to develop naps. Chewy's legs had real problems for a while and no matter that we de-matted him every two days, he always had more developed.

We took him down to a 1/4" - 1/2" cut and he's doing GREAT with that. This also buys us more time before he has to go through being groomed again. We let it grow back out to about and inch and a half or more before retrimming him.

For my money, I like Chewy as short as I can get him without him being at risk for sunburn!
