We are by no means rich and I knew going in that we could not afford more than $800 so we budgeted for Chip. I had a certain amount set and I said that we cannot spend more than that and didn't look at any dogs above my budget. If they were too much, I just said thank you and moved on. I wanted to make sure I had enough money for vet bills and such. Now with Smokey, I expected to pay an adoption fee, but we got him for free.
I don't think people should try and talk down the price of a dog, because if I was a breeder I would be thinking, "do they not think they are good enough to pay x amount?" To me that would make me think that the dogs were almost disposable. Putting a limit on the price though is different though.
