It ended up being about what I expected originally, so I'm fine with it. I'll work on the backbone later.
Anyway, I have a xeroxed copy of the check, and the dog, so I should be all set! I'm very excited. I'm teaching him how to get treats out of his treat ball this week. As I've mentioned, he's not the brightest dog in the world. He sees me put treats INTO the ball, and he gets very excited when treats come OUT of the ball, but it hasn't occurred to him that he could get the treats himself. So far I've trained him to touch the ball with his paw, and I give him an extra big treat if he actually moves it. |
Awww you lil boy is probably smarter than you think lol. I thought Smokey wasn't the brightest either, but he was never worked with. Each dog learns in different ways. Once you find the way that works best for you individual dog, he could be trained for that specific command in a day. Watch for things that he does on his own and make it a trick. The first trick I taught Smokey was "dance". Smokey when he wanted attention, he would stand up on his hind legs and move his front paws. Once I rewarded that behavior and added a word to it, he learned it in a day. It took me months to figure out how to teach him down and I finally figured it out and it took me 15 minutes once I figured it out. It just takes trial and error.
