I don't think neutering normally leads to weight gain.. but I don't really know for sure. If I were you I would just increase exercise and maybe decrease food if that isn't helping. My friends had a Cocker Spaniel that was the same age as mine and it died when it was 8 because it was overweight. My little man is still going at 15 years. What a big difference.
