Hi. I am brand new to this site and am so happy to meet all of you. I have two yorkies, and one yorkie mix. My yorkie Lucky is 8 years old, and Hayley is 12 weeks. They are so precious to me. I just wanted to warn all of you who have never heard about Portal Caval Shunt Disease. It is a disease of the liver and I just found out today my Lucky has it. The last couple of months have been awful because it took that long to diagnose him! So if your yorkie ever starts getting very depressed, lethargic, is very unsteady on his feet (walks like he is drunk), disoriented, paces, drinks a lot of fluid, beware of this disease. He has been so pathetic I was so afraid. They are treating him with antibiotics and some other meds, and also put him on a VERY low protein diet called LD (that is the new food I have to put him on). If I help even one person then that is great. I have just been beside myself with worry. Hopefully in a few days on the new meds and diet, he will be back to his old self.
