I've had many different breeds of dogs over the years and yorkies were definately the hardest to train. I had a poodle (min) once and she was the easiest to train. It took me only one weekend. I think crate training is a great idea but you don't want to use a crate that was large enough for a lab. A crate should only be large enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in. You must remember though that a puppy can't "hold it" if you are going to be gone working for 8 hours and it would be cruel to expect it to hold it for that long in the beginning. Good luck and I hope the poodle in your pup shines through in the house breaking
