Hi there!
I'm new to the forum, but I'm very glad I found this "community" of Yorkie experts!
I'm getting a new puppy in ten days and although she is not a purebred Yorkie (she is a Yorkie poo), I hope that I can still get some help and advice.
A year ago I was a mum to a black lab girl, but unfortunately she wasn't able to stay too long with me once she got very sick.
Point is, Im not too new to the "puppy thing", but when it comes to this breed (or part breed) I have a ton of worries and questions!
First and foremost, Im really worried about house breaking my pup! I've read/heard that Yorkies (especially girls) are pretty stubborn to house train. I know people who have adult Yorkies and still are not 100% house trained. I'm wondering if this is true, and maybe not as true since I have a Yorkie/Poodle cross breed?? I'm very worried because I will only be home with her for two weeks 24/7, before I go back to my regular schedule- where she will have to be left alone for at least five hours.
I'd really prefer to have her crate train- this worked very well with my lab and a plus is that we already have a huge crate. But I've heard a lot of advice such as its bad to use too big of a crate. I've even heard of people litter training their pups- is this true and a good method?
I'd love to hear what people recommended!
