My 7 yo daughter brought home a turkey she made in school today. On each of the feathers, they were to write something that they were thankful for. Now, we all know how abstract the mind of a child can be at times.
Allow me to share with you exactly 'what' she is thankful for, quoted word for word:
1) For my dogs because without them I would be lonely.
2) For food because I could not survive without it.
3) Bunnies because without them I could not sleep...yes, this means I have a stuffed bunny that sleeps with me.
4) Easter because without it I would not have much candy.
5) Christmas because without it I would not have much toys.
6) God because if he was not here we would not be here right now.
7) Cats because without them I would only have 96 littlest pet shops instead of 104.
Notice how she is not thankful for anyone in her family. Clearly, I do not out rank candy, bunnies or littlest pet shop toys.
