Your vet is recommending an ultrasound? Make sure you have it done by a board certified radiologist. They have gotten more education and can locate the shunt better.
My Yorkie recently was dx w/liver shunt. We had an ultrasound done by a regular vet, she confirmed a liver shunt. However, she was honest and said she could not tell me where it was located, and if it could be operated on because she didn't have the extended education for that. She recommended a board certified radiologist/vet.
We took her 2 hours away and she is a candidate for surgery due to the location of the shunt. We paid $150 for the 1st ultrasound and $330 for the one done by a board certified radiologist. Wish I knew...I could have saved $150.
Just something to keep in mind.
Good luck. I hope the outcome is good. |
