I would suggest you call your dentist and get an antibotic for the infection and then wait a week and go see him about a root canal. If there is an infection it will be really hard for them to do the root canal because of the infection (not to mention the novicane won't work). If you are taking pain meds (like vicadin) it also won't work if there is an infection. I would not take this litely. I am not a dentist but my uncle and 2 really good friends of mine are so I know a lot about it. I actually had a friend here at work that had a tooth ache on a tooth that had a crown on it and she was in a lot of pain and called her dentist to get some vicadin but it wasn't working so I told her to call back and get an antibotic and when she called they said "oh that's a good idea." I told my dentist friend the other day that I diagnosed someone LOL. Good luck.
