I worked for Whirlpool here in Ohio for 19 years and wanted to share what I know. Whirlpool bought Maytag about 2 years and closed down most of the original Maytag factories. We build dryers here in Marion, about 24,000 a day. That includes Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, Kitchen Aid, Maytag, and other models sold in Europe. I know they aren't built to last like they were many years ago but nothing seems to be anymore. So many products are considered throw away after a few years but Whirlpool still builds an excellant quality product. My son is a tool and die maker there and I know they still consider quality an extremely important part of building their product regardless of what model is going down the assembly line. I would never hesitate to buy a Whirlpool product. My entire kitchen is filled with Whirlpool appliances including the Microwave oven and the washer and dryer and when the time comes to replace them I will again buy Whirlpool. Sorry if I sound like I'm on a soap box but I just wanted to share what I know about Whirlpool products.
