My very first litter had the work done at the vet. I took MOM and babies and it was as traumatic for me as for the mom. I could not let her down and they took all her babies into the surgical area to do them and put a little suture in the tail. Mom chewed the sutures and I used one of those products you use for chewing. I removed the surures at 10 days like the vet said(I am an OLD nurse so he trusted me) and she licked a tail open again. So, I find using the clamp is as near painless as using anesthesia. Have you ever had novocaine stuck in your finger before stitches? Hurts like the devil! Gimme the stitches anytime..
