If your car has what I'm picturing in my mind, I don't think this seat would work. It actually needs a hard, fairly straight console to sit on. I do love it though because she's close enough for me to pet, can see out the window and it doesn't take up people space. As for the size, Tatum is a year old and weighs about 3.5 lbs but I don't think a pup much bigger than that would be real comfortable. Good luck in your search - I know there are all kinds of seats out there to pick from.
