The neutering can cause weight gain, but it sounds like he is getting a bit too much low quality food. I don't want to make you feel bad, but Iams is filled with by-products and cheap fillers that do not make it the healthiest choice for your baby, and can cause serious weight-gain. There are lots of great foods out there that are healthier and really not that much more expensive than something like Iams.
Have you taken him by the vet's office to weigh him? Maybe you could get a quick check-up and see if he is overweight or just a teapot!!
