I have tried both of the cleaners you mentioned and I did not have good results with them at all. I don't like to use strong chemical in my home either. I am using the homemade recipe on an expensive throw rug in my bedroom and it seems to be working on that without ruining the rug.
This is just another alternative to whatever you use that works for you.
