I have NO need to do homework...I could care less what the standard is I leave that to the people whom HAVE infact did their homework the breeders striving to better the breed. Ill continue on my merry way donating weekly to the rescues and trying my best to get them to their forever homes but thanks for the advice Oh by the way we are in the process of getting a rescue this weekend Im super excited. Im not sure if he is AKC or if he is "standard" I dont care! He has a big white patch on his chest so he may not even be all yorkie. He is 8 pounds not sure if he is "designer" either. Did you know with the tight AKC standards in place they have expanded the life span of dogs in the past 15 years by 3-7 years!!!! I find that very exciting! I also read the the dogs they are doing studies on, are infact AKC. Like I said both my dogs are out of standard. I jumped into buying them before I joined YT I wouldnt change a thing about having my babies. They are my world! I do wish my breeder would have done her homework tho. Diggy has grade 3-4 LP had seizures as a pup ALLLLL cuz my breeder didnt research her lines and know about hypoglycemia. Its sad. Now if you can buy a puppy from a RESPONSIBLE breeder and lower the risk of your dog having LP etc., you may pay more but your also lowering the risk of the 1,500-2,500 surgery I now face. I think your ahead of the game by buying the one from the Responsible breeder. OR you can buy the one from someone who says my doggie is cute and i want more of them to share, nice thought but your asking your dog to dog something he isnt capable of doing...your asking him to make babies free of stds, liver shunt, LP, etc and you prolly dont know your dogs grandparents let alone parents. Do you seriously think i say this to you because im a mean person??? Im not. Im saying this because i have been on here for awile now and i thougth the same way you did. I really did. I used to think my Diggy would have been a great stud and I meant it. I argued on here and got my feelings hurt like many others have. I soon realized its not that people are mean they just knew more than i did and when i took a lil time, searched rescues, etc. they were right! So you can be mad and post back to mean in a condescending way and thats ok. I'm ok with that. I used to be the same way. As to your comment on what the standard used to be, NOONE not 1 person can name breed that makes up the Original Standard Yorkie most of the breeds are exstinct. SO hard to say wether its 5-7-9-20 teapots are gonna pop up here and there and WOW are they CUTE. Ihave meany freinds on here with teapots. They are GREAT. I personally do not look at size to be a HUGE factor in what defines a standard. If i had a wish LP, Shunts, etc would not exist in the breed. Id love to someday have a 20 pound HEALTHY yorkie, that much more to love. WHat I dont want is another yorkie needing screws in his knees or flopping over on my kitchen floor in a seizure. Nothing is 100% but I would think someone knowing lines many many years back with health historys can give these guys a better chance of NOT having those issues rather than someone not even knowing 1 generation of health issues. SOrry if your offended by any of this I just Love dogs. I want whats best for them, not whats best for u or I.
