To answer the original post...

I am not 100% sure what you mean by ruin. There was an old myth that if your dog was bred to another breed that they could never produce pure puppies later even when bred to the same breed later. This is not true.

Boys can really change though once they are bred, they can become very territorial and will mark in your home (our males have to wear a belly band), males who are in tact are at high risk of being hit by a car...they have an extra drive to escape from your yard or out your front door in search of a female and there are some health issues with males being unaltered also.

I do not believe in creating mixed breed puppies because I adamantly believe in breeding excellent examples of the breed to improve and work on the health and standard of one breed. I do not think you will do the poodle breed or the yorkie breed any justice. That said even when mixing it is very important to health screen both parents...yorkies should have knees checked, hips x-rays (Leggs Calves Perthes Disease), bile acids checked, and eyes cleared at the minimum for the breed. For poodles I believe it is very much the same...knees, hips, blood work, eyes (genetic test for PRA is available for toy poodles) and there may be more I am not sure.

Another myth that exists is that mixed breed dogs are healthier and after attending a recent genetics seminar we know this has been proven to not be true...you can actually increase the incidence of genetic health issues because you as the breeder have more control over containing issues in one breed instead of two.
