One thing I didn't know before is that dogs can transmit sexually transmitted diseases, even if it's the first time for both. From what I've read if you are going to stud your dog out, the female should be tested to ensure that she isn't giving your dog a potentially dangerous and costly disease. Many people wish to skip this test because of the expense when their not breeding purebreds, and they tend to take important shortcuts. Also, if you plan to stud your dog again, other breeders will want to know who you dog has been with, and this might affect their decision. This is one of the reasons people have suggested you do research first, many of us who have thought our dogs would make great little studs have changed our minds once we learned more. The more you know, the better your decision.
