Unfortunately, I do not agree with you. "the dog" you refer to was a soul. A living soul, who could feel pain, suffering, love, devotion. He shouldn't have had to suffer because he was a adopted by a person who chose to stop taking their meds. SHE made the decision to stop her meds. SHE put him on the stove. And ultimately SHE KILLED HIM.
