The only thing that has EVER worked for us was original dawn. But there is a trick to using it properly. Mix 50/50 water and original dawn (best grease fighter!) and apply it to a dry dog. Start by making a ring around where the collar would be (so the fleas can't escape to the head) and then lathering in the daw/water mixture. If you get the pup wet first, it gives the fleas a chance to form a grease bubble to protect itself from the water and soap. Cover the dog in lather, let it sit for up to 5 minutes, and rinse.
It won't work if you don't vacuum your carpets and wash all the cloth in your home once you get rid of the fleas on the dog. If you can find fleas on them, then there are other fleas and their eggs all over your home. Those have to go too!
