Hello, I have a 11 month old boy and I also got him from a pet store. I tracked down the breeder and talked to her. Anyway, I started training him to a litter pan, with no litter though, just a wee wee pad in it. This way it gives him a designated space for potty. He trained very quickly to it. He has had some regression episodes but still uses it faithfully. In the beginning I used a Housebreaking Aid spray that you can get at any pet store, just spray a couple sprays on the wee wee pad and it attracts them to go there. FYI-this spray can also be used outside to help train. I do put his potty in his crate with him when we are gone, when we come home I take it out and put it in next to his crate. When I first brought him home though, I kept the potty in the living room and worked with him on it when I was home. I would put him in it every time he had an accident and say "potty" over and over. And also, every 1/2 hour or so put him in it and say potty. He caught on very quickly. I got a medium sized pan so I can cut the wee wee pads 23" by 23" in half. And I order them from PetEdge 100 at a time and they last for a long long time. I would try this. It has been great for Emilio. Also, we live in MI so it was nice since when I got him in Feb. there was snow on the ground. I hope this helps you!! |
